Stad.Preparaat
Niet alleen voor de metropool
Although for the first time in history more than half of the global population lives in cities, some cities will have to admit, that the end of an area is closing in. As yet it is only visible in the national peripheries, eventually super urbanization is likely to further erode rural area’s as well as towns. In the wake of global migration places compete for knowledge hubs, which are crucial to financing the next revolution of urban development. The crave for progress consequently turned into an automatism dissembling the city, an unplanned urban transformation.
The new paradigm is development without growth. In order to reevaluate the mechanics of urban development the fase of preparation is added to the process of planning. Methods of preparation were translated from other practices into urban preparation.
1 INVENTORY
condition, history, reference, source, resource
To acquire the origin of development one starts the collection of historical documents and conditions. The process of organizing and uniforming material is the base for a reference framework on which current conditions can be mapped.
2 IMAGINATION
vision, concept, image
A guiding vision is necessary for a purposeful, motivated undertaking even for negatively considered phenomena. The outlined image can be altered during the process of progressive insight.
3 TAXATION
commensurability, public value, empiric modeling
Budget limits form and clarifies the extent. Urban investment functions like communicating vessels, adding means strategical subtraction. Alongside material value historical, emotional and ideal value should be considered as planning criteria.
4 INGREDIENTS
social network, programme, connectivity
Mono functional zoning is vulnerable to change. Ingredients can complement each other and form new assemblages. The remix of program, users and transport are essential for sustainable and resilient urban tissue.
5 INSTRUMENTS
mapping, big data, modeling
The visualization tools can conduct strategies and monitor the progression. In addition to expansion, instruments can facilitate reuse and smart demolition.
6 TEAMBUILDING
citymakers
Due to a lack of clients, initiators are needed to reboot development. In order for an alternative methode to come into force one needs a team with a diverse set of competences to bridge over the division of labour.
